Once the home to the Native American tribe by the same name, Tequesta is an incorporated beachside village located along U.S. Route 1, just west of the Jupiter Inlet Colony and just north of Palm Beach. At the last census, 5,600 people shared this 2.2 square mile urban area, which includes sections of the mainland as well as some of JuniperIsland. Tequesta is in the northern part of Palm BeachCounty.

Moving to Tequesta

The best time to move to southern Florida is actually during the winter. Temperatures here almost never reach the freezing point. Summers here are a brutal time to move, as temperatures soar into the 90's, which feels quite hotter in the high humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent here during the warm months, and the occasional hurricane sets life on its ear. The good news is, you'll never need to light a pilot light again, as there is little need for heating and 98 percent of the apartments and rental homes in Tequesta use electricity for heat. The primary need around here is for air conditioning.

Neighborhoods of Tequesta

Anchorage Point: An upscale community on the beachfront in Tequesta. In addition to all of the vacation rentals, many residents make full-time homes here. There is a variety of shopping, dining, and nightlife opportunities in Anchorage Point, as well as golf and all of the water sports like boating and sailing.

Armour Manor: Also a luxury community, Armour Manor features sprawling estates and easy access to all of the amenities Tequesta is known for.

Bay Harbor: As the name suggests, this area sits along the bay in Tequesta. House rent is high, partially due to the luxurious estates and partially due to the proximity of the beach and upscale lifestyle.

Blowing Rock Club: This is another waterside community featuring numerous condos for rent and for sale. It features 73 acres of all-natural, undeveloped land to enjoy.

Eastwinds Landing: This area features numerous multi-million dollar properties. Though house rentals are occasionally available here, it is hard to find apartments for rent.

Living in Tequesta

The community of Tequesta is active all year long, offering a variety of activities and festivals such as Harvest Festival, which features vendors catering to green living. The city also hosts a Holiday in the Park, Santa Ride, Movies in the Park, Concerts in the Park, and a Block Party.

Tequesta features lots of shopping, especially in the high-end boutiques of the area. Locals enjoy a variety of local restaurants, including Krave Creative Cuisine & Wine Bar, Thai Lotus Restaurant, and Evo. An abundance of beaches and parks make it easy to find recreation, including Blowing Rocks Nature Preserve, Coral Cove Park, and Constitution Park.

Public school children in Tequesta attend one of the Palm BeachCounty schools, except for a few who are zoned for Martin County Schools. Those in the Palm Beach section go to Limestone Creek or Juniper Elementary, JuniperMiddle School, and JuniperHigh School. Students zoned in MartinCounty attend Hobe Sound Elementary, MurrayMiddle School, and SouthForkHigh School. There are also several private schools in the area.

Nearby are also numerous opportunities to pursue higher education, including Lincoln College of Technology, Palm BeachAtlanticUniversity, Palm Beach State College, Indian River State College, Florida Atlantic University, Keiser University of Ft. Lauderdale, and BrowardCollege, all within an hour's drive of Tequesta.

Major employers in the area are Wells Fargo, PNC Financial Service Group, Ritz-Carlton, and numerous jobs in the legal profession as well as the hospitality industry. The most common occupations are construction, retail, accommodations and food services, professional jobs in science and technology, administrative positions, waste management services, manufacturing, and real estate.

There is little in the way of public transportation in Tequesta, as the majority of workers drive their own automobiles to work or carpool with friends and neighbors. The average commute to work in Tequesta is a manageable 24 minutes. A single Amtrak station is located 18 miles away in West Palm Beach, and most residents get their news and entertainment from the television and radio stations in Juniper and West Palm Beach.
