A master-planned city, Kapolei sits perched upon former sugarcane and pineapple fields. Flanked by the island's idyllic West Coast beaches, Kapolei is a small but bustling city full of life and right smack dab in the middle of the twenty first century. It is one of the wealthiest places in Hawaii luxury without the overwhelming touristy feeling of Waikiki. With a steadily growing population (just over 15,000 at the 2010 census), the economy is strong and new homes are going up every day.
Moving to Kapolei
Rental properties, house prices, food and amenities, everything is a bit more pricey than you'll be used to, and you'll be experiencing sticker shock for a while after getting there (everything has to be imported, after all). But the weather is so nice all year round, it's easy to forget about it. Moving in the summer months into a home for rent may prove to be a bit more difficult since the sun will be beating down on you. Try the winter months for weather that is a tad milder.
There are a number of nice apartment complexes to choose from around Kapolei. A good place to start looking for your apartment rental is Kalaeloa Rental Apartments on Independence Road. Just remember to bring with you copies of your ID, rental history, proof of income, references and a credit report to secure a place as quickly as possible. Because of its country town feel and small size, there aren't any distinct neighborhoods here for the places to rent.
Life in Kapolei
This place has everything you could possibly want and then some. It has the best Thai food for miles at Pho & Company and the most delicious smoothies at Jamba Juice; it has an award-winning public transportation system (yes, there are awards for public transport) and a seemingly endless selection of sprawling golf courses; it has a Wet 'n Wild water park, a brand new recreation center and a Disney resort; shopping malls and a state-of-the-art hospital, movie theaters and every type of outdoor activity you can imagine.
Community is key in Hawaii, and Kapolei residents love their big community events. Don't miss the Aloha festivals, the Kapolei City Lights Electric Light Parade, or Aloun's Farm Pumpkin Patch. Make sure to try the local cuisine at 'Ama 'Ama at least once, even if it's just so you'll know what everyone's talking about when they rave about the Loco Moco.
If you love sun, sea, sand, shopping, great weather, great food and great people, life in Kapolei is good. Just don't forget to pack your ukulele!
