It can be sleepy at times, certainly, but this isn't the grand city of Charleston. This is Berea, and you decide the pace. Speed up or slow down!

When to Move

Mobile Homes, Anyone?

Berea offers residents a tremendous amount of housing choices. Detached houses, of course, are the most prevalent as such units make up 59.4 percent of homes. Obviously, there are a decent amount of apartment complexes in Berea, but mobile homes are another option worth consideration.

Quality Means Everything

Don't assume you get quality with every place in Berea. Inspect carefully and note any big issues to the landlord or staff. Don't even consider renting something that's obviously run-down or has a major problem. Say no thank you and move on to touring the next place.

A Note about Paid Utilities

Berea Neighborhoods

Encompassing 7.8 square miles, Berea isn't large, but housing and nearby highlights vary tremendously within its limits. Before you choose a neighborhood or apartment complex in town, establish what you want and pick accordingly.

Central Berea: Car dependent for some things, you can still walk to the Rice Bowl Restaurant, West Towne Shopping Center, and a grocery store. Biking is feasible. Overall, the area is the most practical spot to live.

Northwest: Offering the widest variety of homes, this area requires a motorized vehicle or a real dedication to cycling. Northwest Park offers space to fly kites and lounge outside. Harvey's Restaurant is a great lunch spot.

Saluda River: Near that river and on the west side, this neighborhood is mostly scattered houses. Get a car! Fish and boat at Saluda Lake.

South: This area is mostly car dependent, but you can walk to eat fast-food and get groceries at Ingles Market. All sorts of housing is here.

Living in Berea

In terms of transportation, most folks drive, and bringing a car is recommended. Biking and walking are okay, but tiresome. Greenlink (Greenville's public transit system) also serves the area. With the Greenville Amtrak station close, you can get in and out of town easily.

Have a meal at Big Clock of Berea and a cocktail at Pub Spirits. You're in Berea. Go shop at Cedar Lane Shopping Center, Berea Shopping Center and Westwood Shopping Center; there's always somewhere to go buy things in this town. While it may not always fascinate and inspire, Berea does please and meet your needs. If you ever need inspiration, head to nearby attractions like the Greenville Zoo and see if the elephants can enlighten you. If you want the skies to yourself, go camping at Paris Mountain State Park and sing with the stars. Again, Berea may not fascinate, but it can shine for you if you let it.
