City GuideBaltimore Highlands

Live like royalty in a city named after a famous English mansion.

Many moons ago, there was a magnificent mansion built in the area that is now known as Baltimore Highlands. Both the land and the mansion were owned by William Dawson, who was the first English consul to Maryland. Rumor has it that the mansion may have been used as a stop on the Underground Railroad; however, this has never been confirmed. In 1909, the land was purchased by a real estate developer who divided the area into three sections: Baltimore Highlands, Friendship Gardens, and the English Consul. Today, Baltimore Highlands has an estimated population of 7,019, and it's quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations for people looking to relocate, due to its prime location between the nation's capital and a thriving metropolis in Baltimore, MD.

Moving to Baltimore Highlands

Finding a home for rent in Baltimore Highlands can be a bit of a tall task, since it's becoming so popular. However, there is a fairly high number of rental units in the small city, because many new residents rent first and buy later. If you want to follow suit and test the waters before diving in, look at house rentals or a studio apartments in Baltimore Highlands before deciding to purchase a place to call your own.

Many of these homes maintain the original charm of this era, with period features like Victorian style architecture, crown molding, and much more. Here's a look at several of the most popular neighborhoods in Baltimore Highlands.

Although not a bustling metropolis like nearby Washington D.C., Baltimore Highlands offers charming shops, a walkable downtown and easy access to key amenities like pharmacies and grocery stores.

Halethorpe: Single-family homes are the name of the game in the neighborhood of Halethorpe. Although the homes in this neighborhood are older, nearly every house has been beautifully renovated or restored to reflect the modern amenities home buyers have come to expect.

Rosemont: Considered by many to be the most desirable neighborhood in Baltimore Highlands, you can't go wrong with one of the period homes in Rosemont. Large yards and well maintained homes greet residents as they drive through the streets of beautiful Rosemont.

Living in Baltimore Highlands

Because Baltimore Highlands is served by the Baltimore Light Rail, it is incredibly easy and convenient to commute to Baltimore and Washington D.C. for work or for fun. Although it may be a small city, Baltimore Highlands does not lack in amenities, with multiple supermarkets and mainstream shops located within just a few minutes' drive.
