Fort Oglethorpe
Fort Oglethorpe: Named after James Oglethorpe, the founder of the Colony of Georgia!
Fort Oglethorpe: Named after James Oglethorpe, the founder of the Colony of Georgia!

Fort Oglethorpe is a city located in Catoosa County (and partly in Walker County), Georgia. It has a population of 9,263 and is situated right near Chattanooga. It used to be a major training center for the Women's Army Corps during World War II but was sold to civilians in 1947. Ever since then it's been drawing in more and more residents every year. It's only five minutes from Chattanooga and 90 minutes north of Atlanta, putting it in a prime spot for both commuters and vacationers. The Tennessee River Valley is an amazing place to live or visit and residents report a super high quality of life here.

Moving to Fort Oglethorpe

If you're thinking about trying to rent an apartment in Fort Oglethorpe, you have picked a great place to look. Costs of housing are well below the median for America and nearly half the units here are rental housing. Whether you're looking for studio apartments or 2 bedroom apartments, you shouldn't have any trouble finding it in this town. There is plenty of real estate available and a high vacancy rate, so get in before the demand skyrockets!

When you're moving here, think about what you'd like to get out of your new apartment. Is it a single-family home that you want or a high rise building with premier apartments? Do you like living close to grocery stores and restaurants or do you prefer to be off the beaten path? Do you have any pets or do you plan on getting any? Asking yourself these questions before you start your hunt will save you tons of time in the long run. Try to narrow down your search as much as possible based on your exact criteria -- you can always widen your search after the fact. Unless you have a specific neighborhood in mind, try to make appointments to see apartments all over the city -- that way you can really get a feel for what is available and get to know the city a little better.

After you've made appointments to see places with various landlords, you'll want to get all your rental documents together so you can have the package ready to go. This includes a copy of your ID, your credit report, your bank statements, pay stubs, letter of employment, references and anything else your landlord might ask for. If you have pets, you'll want to ask the landlord beforehand what kind of paperwork they require or if they even allow animals! Bring your checkbook too. In addition to putting down a deposit, some landlords will want a check to cover the cost of running a credit report, which is usually around $75 or so.
