Fort Oglethorpe is a city located in Catoosa County (and partly in Walker County), Georgia. It has a population of 9,263 and is situated right near Chattanooga. It used to be a major training center for the Women's Army Corps during World War II but was sold to civilians in 1947. Ever since then it's been drawing in more and more residents every year. It's only five minutes from Chattanooga and 90 minutes north of Atlanta, putting it in a prime spot for both commuters and vacationers. The Tennessee River Valley is an amazing place to live or visit and residents report a super high quality of life here.

Fort Oglethorpe is a large stretch of land covering almost 13 square miles. Most of that is preserved forest land in Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Park, but there are a few neighborhoods outside of it. Here's a little more info about them.

Post Road: The area along Post Road is right along the beautiful park so you'll have full access to everything that goes on in the park. There's the Park Place Restaurant right nearby and the BBQ Shack as well!

North Side: The north side of town is heavily populated and you'll find more apartments here than you will closer to the park. Try the tacos at El Matador restaurant -- the locals love them!

East Side: This side of town has Route 2 running right through it, which is a main commercial hub for the town. You'll find great Mexican restaurants like Casa Amigos and southern food too!

Living in Fort Oglethorpe

There's not much missing in Fort Oglethorpe. There are a lot of big, historic houses and the area is rich with history dating back a number of generations. It's home to Chickamuga National Military Park, the oldest and largest of America's Civil War Parks. The famous Chattanooga is only a five minute drive, so you can spend time getting to know that part of the city, too!

There is plenty in the way of shopping and dining in Fort Oglethorpe and most folks have cars to get around the small town and to and from their jobs.

If you're craving a big city, you can head over to Atlanta, just 90 miles up the road! There you really have access to everything, whether its taking in a baseball game, seeing a live music show or just eating at one of the awesome restaurants downtown.
