City Guide for Signal Hill, CA

Before urbanization blocked sight lines with walls, roof lines, towers and palm trees, you could actually clearly see the hill that gives the city part of its name. As for the other part, long ago signal fires were lit on this hill that could be seen even from Catalina Island.

After it became part of a ranch, Signal Hill was supposed to be a tiny enclave heralded by a few mansions. But in 1917, oil wells sprouted across the landscape, making the city one of the most productive oil fields in the country. Only a few of the gushers remain. In their place rose houses, offices and parks -- maybe more green space than you expect to find in just 2.2 square miles. Fortunately, the 11,465 residents (per 2010 census) are okay with all those trees and fields. See more

What to keep in mind when looking for condos in Signal Hill, CA

Finding condos for rent in Signal Hill is almost no different than renting an apartment in a big complex. The real difference is the ownership. Condos are owned by individuals within the same building. However, apartments in a large complex are owned by a single landlord or property management group.

Sometimes the price of condos in Signal Hill may prove cheaper. The owners are often moving onto a new home or leaving the city and just need someone to cover the costs. Apartment complexes are designed to deal with tenant issues, make repairs, and care for the property. Condo owners will still deal with repairs and upkeep but may need more time to address a problem, especially if they don’t live nearby. However, condo owners have a more vested interest in the property and keeping their tenants happy to reduce turnover.

Choose the best condos for rent in Signal Hill that meet your wishlist for budget, amenities, and layout. You probably won’t notice the difference between the condos and apartments you tour.
