Rittman is a one-of-a-kind city with a one-of-a-kind name. It is named for Fred Rittman, who was the treasurer of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in the late 1800s when Rittman was first established.

Rittman was originally a pioneer town. The first settlers came to the land in the early 1800s and the town went through several name changes before being given its name in 1871. Originally supported by the tobacco, tile-making and mill industries, it became the salt capital of the United States around the turn of the century; in the 21st century, Morton Salt produced its product using Rittman's salt mines. Rittman is just over three hours driving from Cincinnati and all of its cultural attractions like museums, parks, and theaters that show plays and musicals.

As a member of Rittman's community, you will find yourself adding your roots to those of the city, which go back over 200 years. The Rittman Historical Society ensures that people in Rittman have the opportunity to celebrate their shared heritage. It restores old buildings and keeps records of the way life was in the early 1800s for the first settlers. There is also an old cemetery where people can experience physical markers of history by visiting the graves of the first families to settle this area of Ohio.

Those who enjoy eating out will love the restaurants in downtown Rittman, including Margarita's Rittman Diner and several pizza places and fast food restaurants.

Rittman also has a very active Chamber of Commerce, which supports hundreds of local businesses. The Chamber of Commerce also sponsors a Christmas celebration every year -- this is a family-friendly event that includes entertainment, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.
