Moving to Massapequa
There are a few things you should do to prepare before you begin your search for the property of your dreams. Below is a checklist to help organize your thoughts as well as your search:
Try to enlist the help of a broker in your search. It helps to have someone else help you. Make sure you decide on a budget (include deposits, application fees and what you are willing to spend on rent each month) that you are aiming to pay per month and decide how big of a unit you want to live in (one, two or three rooms). Also, bring your credit report. This is an important piece of the puzzle for your rental aspirations. While you're at it, why don't you bring rental and job references available. And make sure you begin your search at least eight weeks before you are due to move to give yourself time to find the perfect place. It takes a lot longer than you might expect to get your dream location.
Hello, Neighbors
Nassau Shores: The Nassau Shores neighborhood stretches along Ocean Pkwy. and Merrick Rd. with the South Oyster Bay separating the two shores. This gorgeous coastal area is filled with stately homes that have anywhere from three, four and sometimes five or more bedrooms. Home rentals in this neighborhood are hard to find, so if you have your heart set on Nassau Shores, give yourself plenty of hunting time!
Biltmore Shores and Harbor Green: The Biltmore Shores and Harbor Green neighborhood is flanked by Massapequa Lake to the north and South Oyster Bay to the south. There are a number or choices here as you search for apartments or homes that will suit your needs. Many of the complexes and homes are well established and full of character. Most were built between the 1940's-1970's, with a few more modern additions sprinkled throughout the area.
Harrison Avenue and Saint Marks Place: This is another stunning coastal neighborhood, located just a few miles down the shore of South Oyster Bay near Biltmore Shores. This neighborhood is filled with canals, adorable shops and the infamous Smuggler Jack's Restaurant and Bar! If you love coastal life and vibrant neighborhoods with amazing shops within walking distance, this is where you should begin your search for apartments!
Sunrise Highway and Hicksville Road: The Sunrise Highway and Hicksville Road area is a couple of miles inland between Merrick Road and Hwy. 27. Finding a home for rent can be tricky in this exceedingly well maintained neighborhood because people that live here tend to stay for long periods of time. The commute to and from work can be an exhaustive one, so if you manage to find a home or duplex for rent here, manage your time accordingly!
Town Center: Town Center stretches from Sunrise Hwy. northward, up to Pittsburg Avenue. With Massapequa Creek flanking the eastern portion of the neighborhood, many of the residents adore taking a bike ride or a jog along the Bethpage Bikeway through the greenbelt along the creek. Your search for apartments or homes for rent in this neighborhood will bring you face to face with gorgeous architecture and charming designs circa 1950's.
North Massapequa: North Massapequa stretches from Jerusalem Avenue northward to I-31, otherwise referred to as Southern State Parkway. The Massapequa Preserve flanks the east side of this neighborhood, creating a verdant greenbelt for nature lovers to enjoy on bike rides or evening walks. Renting homes in this neighborhood will likely leave you with a commute, but that commute is well worth the effort when you live in an area as stunning as North Massapequa!
Getting Around Massapequa
One last tip worth mentioning is how most residents commute. Most take the train or carpool with coworkers to ease the strain of travel times and save a bit on gas. This is highly recommended because trying to drive a car, find parking and deal with all of the congestion is a headache best avoided if at all possible! If you can master the commute, you will absolutely enjoy living in the idyllic and coastal setting.
