Overview of Findings

Apartment List has released Minneapolis’ results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters nationwide, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the country’s 111 million renters.

"Minneapolis renters expressed general satisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "They gave most categories above average scores."

Key Findings in Minneapolis include the following:

Minneapolis renters gave their city an A overall.
The highest-rated categories for Minneapolis were recreational activities (A+), commute time (A) and public transit (A).
The areas of concern to Minneapolis renters are weather and affordability, which received C and B grades, respectively.
Minneapolis millennials are very satisfied with their city, giving it an overall rating of A+, while renters who are parents are less satisfied, giving it a B+.
Minneapolis did relatively well compared to other Midwest cities like Omaha (B-), Kansas City (B) and Cleveland (C).
Minneapolis earned similar scores compared to other cities nationwide, including Raleigh (A), Boston (A) and Nashville (A-).
The top rated cities nationwide for renter satisfaction include Scottsdale, AZ, Irvine, CA, Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI. The lowest rated cities include Tallahassee, FL, Stockton, CA, Dayton, OH, Detroit, MI and Newark, NJ.
