Located in the North central portion of Florida is the community of Asbury Lake, where legend has it that a nearby neighborhood might be haunted. Yet, regardless of whatever ghosts might be hanging around, Asbury Lake's 8,700 residents have no problem calling it home. Its official designation is Lake Asbury, but to its residents, it is known as Asbury Lake. The community is located on the banks of an actual lake named Asbury.

Asbury Lake is centrally located in Florida, just 30 miles southwest of Jacksonville. Asbury Lake can be accessed from Route 21 in the north, and it bordered by Route 218 in the south. It is 3.6 square miles in size, so it will not be huge. Although it is landlocked, Asbury Lake is actually only a few miles away from the St. Johns River, a major river running north and south through Florida.

Moving to Asbury Lake

An apartment rental in Asbury Lake will yield some official listings in nearby towns, but very few in Asbury Lake itself. However, this does not mean that there are not a number of options from which renters can choose. For example, there are a number of house rental options, which give you the opportunity to potentially own the house you rent. Those potential renters and buyers with less than stellar credit might find this option extremely valuable. There are numerous options within this rent-to-own category, such as single family unattached homes, as well as townhouses for rent, even mobile homes for rent.

There are also the more common types of rentals, such as a studio, 1, or 2 bedroom apartment. These types of rentals might be a bit more difficult to locate, and you might have to look outside of the community limits, but this only means traveling an additional mile or two in most cases. Speaking of traveling, it is imperative that you own a car if you are considering living in Asbury Lake, as there is no public transit system to speak of.

A Favorable Market

Asbury Lake is, by all indications, a buyer's market. So, even if you are only interested in renting and not buying, you will still be able to have your pick of the available housing. This translates into entering a lease agreement that is most beneficial to you. Of course, you should anticipate having a credit check, having to pay an application fee, and being prepared to pay three months' rent (first, last, security deposit) at the time of signing. However, the actual terms of the rental agreement should be fairly negotiable, and in your favor.

Asbury Lake Neighborhoods

Asbury Lake does not have actual neighborhood designations, as it is actually considered to be a neighborhood itself. Yet it can still be viewed as two distinct areas:

North Asbury Lake: North of Branscomb Road can be found such attractions as Black Creek, Black Creek Pond, Black Creek Ravines Conservation Area. A couple of the local restaurants are G's Slow Smoked BBQ and Pulcinella Restaurant. Services in this area are Pampered Pooches, Pickett Construction, Linear Landscape and Design, Trendline Constructors, Inc., to name a few.

South Asbury Lake: This is the region of Asbury Lake where you will find schools--Lake Asbury Elementary School and Lake Asbury Junior High School. Not far away from the schools is Lake Asbury Fire Station. One of the area's restaurants is Master Wok Restaurant, and a couple of businesses in the area are North Florida Dance Center and Three Wise Men Design/Build. Don't forget to visit the brand new Amazing Grace Crop Maze.

Living in Asbury Lake

Asbury Lake might be a small, quiet community, but it still has a number of great offerings, including restaurants, construction companies, and general services and amenities. If you have the occasional hankering for more options, you can always venture a few miles outside of town, which would give you access to such attractions as the Ronnie Van Zant Memorial Park. Or, you can journey a few miles further into Jacksonville, and take advantage of all that the city has to offer; with a population of 1.3 million, and the largest city by area in the country, you will have no shortage of things to do in Jacksonville. Once you've had your fill for the day, you can return to your off-the-beaten-path home of Asbury Lake.
