City Guide
Stanford
Moving to Stanford

Plan on paying a pretty penny to live here, as apartments for rent can rival prices in certain areas of New York and L.A. If you can afford the rent, however, it is well worth it. Neighboring Palo Alto is a beacon of the tech industry, home to Apple and an office of Google. Some of the most exciting technological advances are being developed here, just a short drive from Stanford's clean, charming streets.

Neighborhoods

Stanford has a number of different neighborhoods and people choose where to live based on the type of vibe they like -- basically living close to the college or getting a bit of distance from it.

Stanford Center: Stanford Center is a beautiful neighborhood that appeals to diverse groups of folks. Many of the apartment buildings here give options like single room leases and one bedroom apartments, making it easier to afford the area. They are beautifully appointed, many of them furnished and featuring swimming pools, workout centers, and common lounge areas, encouraging conversation and interchange between residents.

Sand Hill Road: Winding up the west side of Stanford on into Menlo Park, the land of venture capitalists, Sand Hill Road is home to many apartment buildings, offering up luxury living where you may find an apartment, home rentals, or a studio for rent in Stanford, along with a pool and neighbors who may work for Google or may be affiliated with Stanford.

Page Mill Road: Across town from Sand Hill Road, this area is primarily residential with small houses and apartment complexes lining the streets. You'll also find people lined up outside Joanie's Cafe -- one of the favorite local restaurants on this side of town!

Living in Stanford

The atmosphere here feels abuzz, and it is infectious. Enjoy the nightlife, with plenty of bars and restaurants; whatever type of cuisine or spirits you prefer, Stanford will have something to fit your taste. Take a trip up to San Francisco for some shopping or a Giants game or head even further north to Napa Valley, where you can visit Stanford University graduate Robert Mondavi's winery, or catch a world-class dinner at the French Laundry. This is one of the trendiest areas in the country, and apartments here are coveted, so get in while you still can!
