Escalon is neatly divided into four quarters by the crossroads of Yosemite Avenue, Jackson Avenue, Escalon Bellota Rd, and McHenry Avenue.

Northeast: This neighborhood provides plenty of housing options, including some large single-family homes.

Northwest: As Escalon's smallest neighborhood, this is a quiet spot, offering easy access to Hogan Park.

Southwest: This neighborhood conveniently contains many handy local businesses. If you're a homebody who likes to be able to get all they need on their doorstep, this part of town is for you.

Southeast: It seems wrong to speak about leaving such an attractive community, but if you live in the southeast part of town, you will enjoy easy access to nearby Riverbank; just hop on the Santa Fe Rd and keep driving!

Living in Escalon

From art shows to community dinners, you will find plenty of ways to get to know your neighbors and make some new friends.

Sometimes, you will want to get out of this small town, and when you do, Modesto is an obvious place to go. Many smart folks have worked out that rental apartments in Escalon are a good base for commuting to Modesto for work, which only takes around 20 to 25 minutes, depending on the traffic on McHenry Avenue.

While you're in Modesto, take a trip to the Gallo Center for the Arts, where you can catch a concert or a dance recital. There are also theatrical performances -- both comedic and serious -- to catch and hold your attention.

Why would you live in California if you didn't plan to get out and enjoy the weather every once in a while? The Del Rio Golf and Country Club is just a few minutes' drive away, or if you feel like going a little further afield, then you can reach the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge in as little as 30 minutes by road.

In case you haven't noticed yet, yes, you will need a car when you live in Escalon. Getting around the city itself on foot is perfectly doable (Escalon has a reasonably good WalkScore of 57), but if you want to get out and about, a car is a must in this spread-out region.
