City Guide for Lumberton, TX

This resilient Texas town scored a direct hit from a powerful hurricane, not once, but twice. Hurricane Rita barreled ashore on September 24, 2005, and on September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike followed suit. Both storms affected the little city with significant damage, but that didn't keep the locals from surging back and rebuilding what is now, a thriving local economy and community.

Established in 1894 as a stop for the Beaumont, Gulf and Kansas City Railways that established tracks through the area in that same year, the town was not actually incorporated until 1973. Just north of Beaumont, the town is flanked by Hwys 96, 69 and 287, which branch up from the south. Lumberton's population numbers are projected to continue on a positive, upward trend. Part of what has attracted so many residents to the area in recent years is the undeniable beauty of the region. See more

What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Lumberton, TX

Finding an apartment in Lumberton that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
