Her songs have been covered by a host of musicians, including Emmylou Harris, Ellis Paul, Rory Block and Dixie Chicks.

Tabitha Jane King, wife of author Stephen King, is also from Old Town. She's an American author and activist in her own right. She attended the University of Maine where she met her future husband. She wrote many novels, including "Survivor" and "Burning Candles." Perhaps you'll find a hint of Old Town in her writings or her husband's infamous suspense novels.

The climate is marked by large seasonal temperature differences. Like the weatherman says, "If it's not hot and humid, it'll be pleasantly mild." On the other hand, "If it's not severely cold, it'll be bright and brisk." Old Town's weather covers all the bases and is perfect for all types of woodland and waterway adventures in the wild Maine outdoors.

Old Town was put on the map by the renowned Old Town Canoe Company, which has been a faithful employer and major manufacturer of world-class canoes and kayaks for more than 100 years. Local residents also work for the University of Maine in Orono and Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Old Town's forests attract hunters due to the abundance of deer, bear, coyote and moose. Hikers, bird watchers and photographers take advantage of the exceptional beauty here in their own way. More than 50 miles of rivers and streams, which are famous for smallmouth bass, lure anglers year-round. With a population of only 7,840, there's plenty of room to roam and relax.
