When developers first began "adding character" to the St. Augustine Shores community in the late 1960s and early 1970s, 58 acres were set aside for parks and 45 acres for recreational sites along the Intercoastal Waterway. Still today, this is an outdoor recreation lover's paradise, with more than 150 miles of bike paths and 14 lake and ponds. Not to mention the St. Augustine Shores Golf Club, which is one of the top recreation destinations in this part of Florida.
St. Augustine Shores is a city of approximately 7,359 residents (2010 U.S. Census data) along the northeastern coast of Florida. Compared to the rest of the country, the cost of living here is about 7 percent lower than the national average, which is a nice surprise for a coastal city. In this community, you can take advantage of the 12,000-square-foot recreation building along the waterway, the 180,000-gallon pool, 500-foot pier with a gazebo, and a private golf course suitable for all skill levels. Finding an apartment in St. Augustine Shores that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.
While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.
If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
