Mission Valley Estates: Mission Valley Estates is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Laurel. Here, you'll find a variety of single family dwellings, condos, and other rental properties amid the endless stretches of palm trees and well-manicured lawns.

Osprey Beaches: Osprey Beachers is closest to Laurel. Most of the public beaches are on the south side of the nearby community of Casey Key. Beaches here are most crowded during the summer months when school is out, but are rarely unoccupied even in the cooler months. These beaches are about 15 minutes from the town of Laurel.

Living in Laurel

Laurel is just a short drive from the beaches in the area, and is convenient to all of the tourist attractions, restaurants, and shopping venues available along the western coast of Florida. However, the crowds here aren't nearly as daunting as the heavier traveled areas of Orlando and Miami.

The area's school children attend Nokomis schools. In the Sarasota County school district. Apartments for rent are usually available near the local schools. There is an abundance of colleges in central Florida to choose from, some quite near Laurel, including Argosy University Sarasota, Florida Gulf Coast College, Florida Southern College and Florida Tech. College students moving to the area should start looking for a place to live a couple of months before the semester starts in order to find an apartment to rent at an affordable price.

The top employers in this area are Tropicana Products, Onyx North America, Vengroff Williams and Associates, Boar's Head Provisions, Taylor Woodrow and Beall's Inc. Unemployment here is below Florida's average. There are a number of townhouses for rent nearby these major employers.

Predominant industries here include retail sales, construction work, education, accommodations and food services, science and technology and the medical industry. Most workers here work in sales, maintenance, management positions and electronics.
