"Lake Purdy on the Little Cahaba was raised in 1911. When waters of the Cahaba were first utilized, all that was needed to make the water perfectly drinkable was a short period of settling." (From Cahaba Basin Project Technical Committee Report)
Brook Highland is all of a whopping 2.9 square miles on the map, making it about the size of Mayberry of television fame. If that wasn't enough, most of the residents would make Andy, Barney and Aunt Bea proud: they fish, attend town festivals, sit on the porch and gossip about the neighbors, and spend time enjoying the sights and sounds of their sister city, Birmingham. Once called Lake Purdy, Brook Highland has it all. Well, except Lake Purdy. The real Lake Purdy is a manmade reservoir disguised as a lake.
