The city of Heath was known as Black Hill in 1846, referencing the black soil that permeated the area. In 1854, it was known and referred to as Willow Springs, named after a creek in the area. However, the name would change again in 1886, finally adopting the name of the man who was one of the earliest settlers in the area.

The city of Heath resides in both Rockwall and Kaufman Counties and encompasses 6.9 square miles of gorgeous rolling hills and valleys within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on Hwy 740. Heath was named after one of its earliest settlers, John O. Heath, who moved to the area back in 1846, but it would be just over a century before the city was finally incorporated in 1959.
