Located along the Kokosing River, in the middle of Amish country, this little city has a lot going for it. Let us set the scene: the backdrop is made up of rolling hills and valleys, historic architecture, and the occasional college kid scootin' around town. In the city center, you can find one of the oldest opera houses in the country, as well as a few bars and restaurants. Apartments don't always look like apartments, but rather small communities of little stand-alone houses with private yards, private entrances, and no upstairs or downstairs neighbors. There are also some very charming old brick buildings for downtown apartment-dwellers.
Rental rates typically range from $400 to $800, making it pretty easy to afford housing for any budget-minded renter. However, be sure to save your extra money for winter time electric bills, which easily run over $200 - $300 a month.
Amenities in local apartments are beautifully basic. Laundry facilities, playgrounds, and parking are the most you can expect from the community's amenity list. However, in-unit extras such as private yards, laundry rooms, and dishwashers do make the renter's life pretty nice. There are also a handful of places that are all-bills-paid, which can be a huge money saver.
Those moving to town with pets will have to do a little extra legwork, especially if you have a dog weighing over 20 pounds. Those with cats and purse-size dogs won't have too much trouble, but anyone with a bigger dog will have to search beyond online listings to find that rare big-dog-friendly property rental.
Now that you've had a good read, it's time to see this city for yourself. Best of luck!
