Southport got its name due to its location on the south side of the Chemung River -- who'd have thought!
Southport, New York, is a small town located in Chemung County. Although the first settlers came to the area in 1788, Southport was not officially established until 1822. Southport is about two and a half hours inland from Lake Erie and roughly four hours from New York City. This area is known for its lush river valleys and hilly upland areas. Finding an apartment in Southport that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible.
