Mount Washington's former mayor once appeared on "The Price is Right" as a game show contestant. He brought home winnings of $185 but lost his chance at winning a brand new car. He gave the host of the show, Bob Barker, the key to Mount Washington as well. Maybe he thought by presenting the show's host with the illustrious key he might have a better chance of receiving the keys to the car in return. No such luck.
A bedroom community for nearby Louisville, Mount Washington, Kentucky has seen a decided rise in its population in the past thirty years. Now home to approximately 9,000 residents, Mount Washington was established in 1822 as Mount Vernon - named for George Washington's famous Virginia residence. However, the town could not retain the name because another nearby town also used the moniker. Once the spot where two stagecoach routes met, Mount Washington was called the "Cross Roads" in the early 19th century.
