Navarre is a quaint, charming little town with a population of about 33,000. If you enjoy living the life of a beach bum, or fantasize about doing so, this is the town for you. Seriously, how can you go wrong?

Moving to Navarre

What you will need is money for a deposit, references, and a fairly decent credit report. Or hunt for a co-signer before you start your apartment search.

Vacancy rates hover around the 10-percent mark, and the cost of living is a bit higher than the national average, but what else would you expect from such as beautiful community? Stop your complaining and pay up.

Navarre Communities

Navarre is its own unincorporated community. Forget about tense interactions with uptight neighbors and dreary weekends running errands. Navarre is for soaking up the sun, lying on the beach, and taking advantage of all sorts of recreational activities.

Australian Rd / Masters Blvd:This area is suburban and coastal. As far as rental options go, you'll find plenty of single-family homes and apartment complexes here. There's a vacancy rate of about 14 percent, so you can find an apartment rental, but you'll have to be ready to spend. Rentals here tend towards the expensive side.

Town Center: In some towns, the central region is the most expensive since that's where everyone wants to live. That's not the case here. Sure, it's right there at the water, so few will complain about settling in here, but the rents are cheaper than in the Australian Rd / Masters Blvd area. Of course, you knew there was bad news coming. You won't find a ton of apartment homes here. The area has more single-family and mobile homes than anything. If you're dying to live here, settle in for a long search.

Holley: If you're looking for lower rent, this might be the place to hang your hat. This is a more rural area. It has a 7-percent vacancy rate, and you'll likely have better luck finding 3 bedroom homes to rent here than a bunch of apartments. If you're good at finding a needle in a haystack, however, it may prove worth the effort.

Living and Working in Navarre

For such a small community, you'll literally never run out of stuff to do, which is why it's also a great tourist haven. Residents are just ga-ga over a plethora of vacation activities, such as beach volleyball, fishing, bike riding, paddle boarding, jet skiing, surfing, plain-old walking and jogging, bird watching, and hitting the numerous scenic trails in the area.

Navarre's also trendy enough to include some fine restaurants. When you're already laying on the beach the whole day, why not finish off the fun with a great meal? Shopping here caters mostly to touristy things, antiques, souvenirs, and the like. Who cares, right?

Navarre enjoys a central location right in between Destin and Fort Walton and Pensacola Beach. As such, residents enjoy easy commuting thanks to Highway 98, which is scenic and hugs the beautiful coastline, and I-10, which is the east-west route. Of course, there's also Florida Highway 87, which begins at Gulf Islands National Seashore and Navarre Beach and then heads north to historic Milton, all the while winding through a path that includes amazing history and interesting ecosystems.

Now that you're all abreast of what a permanent stay in Navarre is like, go ahead and start applying that suntan lotion. You'll need it! If you're sick of the city life and want to escape into a small-town beach paradise, then Navarre has your name all over it. With a lot of history, things to see and do, and friendly locals, it almost sounds too good to be true. You'll have to be the judge of that.
