The city of Calipatria, CA is only about 50 miles from the Mexico border. It was founded in the early 1900s and although it's a small city, it's not far from major cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, and Palms Springs. The population is 7,705 with the most popular industries being construction, public administration, and agriculture. It's a little city with a lot to give!
Calipatria has considerably more rental houses than apartments. The cost of living is lower in this city versus California averages. You should have no problem finding places to rent in Calipatria. The rental prices are lower in this city than in the majority of the state.
Preparing for a Life in Calipatria
If you're looking for a small town feel, this is it. There is no public transportation and although most places can be accessed by foot, you may need a car to get to some parts of the city. It shouldn't be difficult finding apartment rentals. There are one bedroom apartments for rent as well as two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments. If you look hard in town, you're sure to find at least a studio apartment for rent.

There are a few more restaurants located in the CityCenter as well. CalipatriaPark is in the heart of the city and CliffHatfieldAirport is just northeast of downtown.
Calipatria is a small town but there are things to do in and around it. The main part of the city is only 3.72 square miles but since there is not public transportation you may need a car to get around.

There are very few restaurants in town. You can eat a decent meal at the Steakhouse at the Inn. More eating establishments can be found a few miles away in the city of Brawley. There is a grocery store in the center of town but will also need to drive to Brawley to get to the local Walmart. It's only 15 minutes south of Calipatria.
The city doesn't lack for green space. There are several parks spread throughout the area including CaldwellPark, Rademacher, MikesellPark, HernandezPark, and Calipatria Little League Park. There are places for fishing and bird watching too.
It's about a two hour drive to the beach in San Diego but if you need to be by water, you can go to nearby Salton Sea. You can visit the Wildlife Refuge named after the late entertainer and politician Sonny Bono. There are also natural mud pots and geothermal mud volcanoes.
Another interesting landmark is SalvationMountain. It is a man-made attraction created with local adobe clay by artist Leonard Knight.
Back downtown, the Meyer Memorial Library has plenty of books for reading and research. If you need to get access to the Internet, you can do it here too.
From Calipatria, you can always take a day trip to the Grand Canyon in Arizona and Phoenix is just a little under four hours away.
The landscape is beautiful in this part of the world and Calipatria is just right if you're looking for fresh air and wide open space.
