City Guide for Kaukauna, WI

Grab some crackers -- Kaukauna, WI, is home to the world famous Kaukauna Spreadable Cheese Company, which isn't all that surprising for a town in Wisconsin (it is frequently referred to as "America's dairyland," after all). No matter where you are in the United States, you're bound to find an almond-crusted cheese ball or log with the company's red-barn logo.

Although settled in 1759, Kaukauna was not incorporated as a town until 1885. At first, Kaukauna was nicknamed "The Lion on the Fox"; the town is now known as "The Electric City" because of its hydroelectric plant. Today, Kaukauna has a population of just over 15,000 and the city has its own police, fire and rescue departments available for residents. With activities for all ages, it is no surprise that Kaukauna has been named Wisconsin's most friendly city. See more

What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Kaukauna, WI

Finding an apartment in Kaukauna that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
