City Guide
South Houston
Moving to South Houston

South Houston is a spot many want to live, so give yourself at least a month to search for a home. Check out the Houston area newspapers, online resources, and, of course -- drive around and walk through the streets to look for properties for rent. Bring your ID and your credit report for your future landlord.

There are many reason South Houston makes an excellent home for thousands of people and counting. Here the weather is mild and pleasant all year round with a high amount of sunny days. Winter is usually not too cold, and summer is usually pleasant and warm.

Neighborhoods

It is a great idea to move to a comfortable, safe and affordable town like South Houston. Here you will be able to enjoy apartments with paid utilities, many a studio apartment, three-bedroom apartments, and you can find a roomy two-bedroom apartment as well. No matter what you're looking for, you can be sure to find it in South Houston.

Galveston Road: This is a nice neighborhood for several key reasons. You are also walking distance from several wonderful green spaces including Christy Park, City Park, and South Houston City Park. This is ideal for those who enjoy spending time walking, picnicking, biking, or getting some fresh air on a warm summer day.

The Avenues: The Avenues neighborhood of South Houston follows along several alphabetically named avenues full of trees and beautiful new and old rental apartments. Many homes complete with front and back yards can also be found here. The airport and South Houston shopping mall are only a short drive away.

Allen-Genoa Road: This neighborhood is right on the east edge of town and provides quick access to highways for out of town travel. You are also quite close to City Park, with plenty of wide open grassy space and shady trees. This is a great place to find large and small apartments for rent.

Living in South Houston

This is a comfortable community with plenty to do whether you have your own vehicle or not. Harris County Transit offers top of the line public transportation in town.

Whatever wheels you use, you'll find there are many cafes and restaurants with wonderful local food from Tex Mex to BBQ.

The South Houston Library often has great public activities for every resident, and is also a wonderful place to read or study. Ellington Field is also located nearby, an historic site once home to army barracks, now the perfect spot for walking, sports or just relaxing with a picnic in the park.
