Myers Corner is a hamlet within the town of Wappinger in Dutchess County, New York. It boasted a proud 6,790 residents at the 2010 Census, and has a total area of 4.3 square miles. Despite its small size, Myers Corner has actually been growing in population over the last few decades. Look out, Wappinger! This place is ready to bust its little britches and put on some big-boy pants.
Transportation
Like most little communities, Myers Corner isn't served by a direct subway line or a local bus route, so you'll need a vehicle if you ever intend to leave the house. With a pretty appalling Walk Score of 29, you aren't going to get much done on foot. Bicycling isn't impossible, but it's not particularly efficient, either. Stick with the car and you'll be a happier camper.
Rent an Apartment in Myers Corner
If you're set on moving to this community, you're going to have to do your homework at the realty offices. Rental apts and houses are not frequently listed because there just isn't much turnover in Myers Corner - people move in for the long haul. You are more likely to find available apartments, with paid utilities or without, than you are to find a house or duplex for rent. Apartment complexes aren't really a Myers Corner thing -- if you want a studio or small apartment you will most likely need to sign with the landlord of a house than has been split into upper and lower suites.
Utilities
Since Myers Corner isn't a self-governing entity, you'll have to talk to the Town of Wappinger for water, trash and recycling services. Start the conversation at least a month before you plan to move into Myers Corner, just to make sure that you aren't spending any nights in a dark, waterless house. No one wants that on moving day. Check their recommendations for power, gas, cable and internet hookups as well, and give the companies a few weeks to get things done, just in case.
Okay, in all honesty, there are no "neighborhoods" to speak of here. That's why it's called a hamlet. If you like, we can cross-section the community into three main areas based on where it is bisected by Highways 93 and 94, and take a closer look at Myers Corner.
North: The north end of the hamlet is bordered to the south by Highway 93. There are several pretty creeks here, but not a lot in the way of houses or businesses. This is where you might search for rental apts if you fancied more solitude than the average home-renter.
West: The west section of Myers Corner contains Lake Oniad, even more waterways than in the north, and a fair bit of housing. Most of this area is green space filled in by a few business headquarters. Along the line that separates the north section from the west, you'll find several public schools. This is the heart of Myers Corner.
East: This is the residential area of Myers Corner, where you will find dainty rows of houses and Martz Field, and not much else. You're most likely to find a vacant home in this section, so start your home search here.
Grocery
When you think of commercial isolation, you're really thinking of Myers Corner. This is not the place to come join the rat race - it's the place you come to escape it. When it comes to grocery shopping, you're pretty much confined to Pete's Deli and Meadowbrook Farm - so, sandwiches, pickles and fresh veggies. Seriously though, you'll need to head to outer Wappinger for the Saraswati Grocery or Hughsonville Mart. It's not far.
Dining Out
Dining out is done with stress on the "out" part. Just outside of Myers Corner you'll find Ciao Bella Pizzeria and the Falls Diner and Catering, but for more choice head west to Highway 9. There you will find Mr. Sushi and Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings, the Olive Garden and several great Mexican restaurants.
Yep, you've got it now. Myers Corner is all about living the chill lifestyle!
