485 Dog Friendly Apartments for rent in Watchung, NJ
The Legend of Watchung, New Jersey, rivals more famous accounts of the events around Jamestown between Captain John Smith and Pocahontas. Like that story, an intervening princess saved the day in what would become Watchung.
The name comes from a tribe of Lenni-Lenape Native Americans who inhabited the area and allowed Dutch settlers to live in the valley after the events in the legend. It's a narrow valley with Plainfield, New Jersey, on its right and Interstate 75 on its left. Watchung Lake lies virtually in the middle of the borough and sets the tone for the rest of the community. Almost 6,000 people live here, but it's part of a much larger metropolitan area that effectively extends all the way to greater New York City. Something you will notice right away is the lower population density here. The lots are generally larger than in neighboring towns and cities. See more
Finding an apartment in Watchung that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.
While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.
If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
