Upper Saddle River -- not to be confused with its neighbor and zip-code buddy Saddle River -- is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey. It was settled by the Dutch in the 19th century, who used the powerful waters of Saddle River to build mills along the banks of the river. Proclaimed an official borough in 1894, this community experienced heavy growth along with the rest of suburban New Jersey, but has remained steady since the 1970s. As of the latest census, there were over 8,000 residents.

The rents and home values -- like the actual properties in Upper Saddle River -- are intense. These homes were built across a wide span of decades, from the 1950s right up until 2012, but what all of these rental properties have in common is style and elegance.

Strictly speaking, Upper Saddle River is really just one neighborhood unto itself, but for the sake of better exploring the city, we'll divide it up into two parts as if the river were a border between two halves.
East: The eastern section houses the public schools and the Apple Ridge Golf Course. Highway 17 runs through the far edge, along which many business and eateries have clustered. The array of residential spaces are equal with those on the westside of town, as are home values, for the most part. Several tributaries run into the central river from this side of town. Fast-food joints and fine dining restaurants are as nearby as the Garden State Parkway, and Andy's Fishery supplies fresh seafood.
West: This side of Upper Saddle River is comprised of small and larger businesses that are huddled close to the upper branches of the river, as well as residential areas that spread out to the south end of the the city. There are fewer basic amenities to the East, as it does not touch a major roadway. Here you'll find fun venues like the Gravity Vault Indoor Rock Gym and the Apple Ridge Golf Course. You're also nearer to grocery centers like Schreiber Foods International and the Food Institute.
Groceries and Supplies
There are some great shopping centers in Upper Saddle River, particularly when it comes to groceries and home supplies. Visit Scheiber Foods International, the Food Institute, or the nearby Organico for natural, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables. As for home supplies, you have everything from business-related materials to self-storage options, right in town.
Dining Out
When it comes time to dine out, you'll need to take a cruise down Highway 17 or the Garden State Parkway to check out all your options. Both directions will give you a decent mash-up of mouth-watering cuisines. Try out the Greek City Restaurant on 17, or the Oriental just a little further to the south. The Morning Dew Cafe and Olive Garden have your favorite lunchtime classics, plus some hearty dinner menus as well. Along the Garden State Parkway, you'll find Montvale Chinese Cuisine, Phil's Pizzeria, and Fire and Oak for drinks and stylish appetizers.
Transportation
There is no public transit in this city, nor is it particularly splendid for pedestrians, with a WalkScore of only 22. The solution? Your own vehicle, and a possible car pool to work and back again!
