Vero Beach is one of Florida's treasures. In fact, it's the "anchor" community for this part of the state, known as The Treasure Coast.
Gracious and sophisticated with century-old Oak trees, palms and lush vegetation, it is known for its sprawling waterfront estates. Located on a sliver of land abutting both the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, it's a favorite with the boating population, and seems to captivate all comers with its charms.
This jewel of a small Florida city has its tranquil, upscale areas, but it boasts rental property to suit all styles and price ranges. You won't need much other than deposit money and the first month's rent to find your own place. You can pretty much come for a month or a lifetime! There are plenty of people who try it for a month, and return again and again. Should you decide to stay, Vero Beach embodies the best of the Florida lifestyle, with 3 bedroom apartments and delightful small homes nestled on canals or in self-contained communities. You can also find a 1 bedroom apartment for rent in Vero Beach in a variety of neighborhoods. Try looking in the area of 20th St. and Kings Hwy.
Rents in Vero can be surprisingly reasonable for what you get. Consider short-term leases on condos for rent for the "season" in the high-rise condos that march along the ocean. In addition to great views, you'll usually have a pool, lush grounds, fitness centers and easy access to the beach.
There are also numerous gated communities inland, though no real defined neighborhoods in this southern portion of the larger Vera Beach. Some of these communities are adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway or constructed along the network of interior canals, and you'll find smaller buildings with unfurnished apartment homes or a duplex for rent. This unincorporated area of Indian River County is uniquely sprawling over nearly 11 square miles, with over 5% being water.
If you love culture, attend a local concert of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. Not the classical type? You may prefer the J.M. Stringer Gallery of Fine Art or The Heritage Center and Citrus Museum. Children and adults love the Environmental Learning Center to explore wildlife and vegetation with hands on displays and nature walks. There is even a skate park nearby for the wild ones who enjoy sports. Or, on a quiet afternoon, you can wander along the shore by the city's Marina and mooring field and dream of getting away on your own vessel.
Special events are held at Riverside Park -- from gourmet food samplings to impromptu concerts to the annual, always packed Gardenfest that attracts more than 20,000 visitors. That's one thing about living in Vero -- learn to love your garden! But, it's easy here because of the semi-tropical climate and the humidity!
Eating Out
When you're finished shopping, or if you need a tall, cool one and a snack, get yourself to one of the beach bars where live music plays all day long -- or stop by a local Cuban restaurant for a brew and a traditional sandwich. Or, grab an ice cream. People here love their ice cream! You'll find authentic Mexican specialties and fine dining almost side by side in Vero Beach. For a night out on the town, take your pick of the always hopping Riverside Grill, or dress up (in Florida casual attire, of course!) for dinner at Maison Martinique, Saigon Sushi or Havana Nights Piano Bar. You can always kick off your shoes for a late night stroll on the beach!
