Located just a few minutes from Tampa Bay, Sun City Center is more than an apartment complex, it is a full-service community dedicated to creating a community for its over-55 residents. In short, Sun City Center believes that age is a state of mind and that their residents have a mind to live with folks who respect what they like.
If mom and dad say they are moving to Sun City Center, then forget getting then a fruitcake or knitted sweater for Christmas, they will be too busy. With almost two dozen golf courses, a full slate of activities, and more clubs than you can count, Sun City Center is a haven for active retirees and professionals with an eye to retirement.
Median home price is fairly low, so you won't blow your savings moving in--although you may still feel a dent. There are choices for everyone, including single family homes, condominiums, and townhouses. Homes are listed like any other real estate, so sharpen a pencil and start scanning the listings. With almost 10,000 homes in the neighborhood, there are always properties changing hands.
The only requirement for the community is proof of age - at least one dweller has to be over 55. No exceptions. And you won't be shooing kids off your lawn, no one under 18 can live in any dwelling more than 30 days out of the year. Also, bring your golf cart, they are legal inside the community boundaries.
Sun City Center is self-governing with a community association that has a nine-member Board of Directors. Every resident is a voting member and participation is enthusiastic and raucous. Living in Sun City is a way to have a voice in how your neighborhood is run (sometimes a loud voice.)
Volunteers work on committees of every kind, from security to mentoring and tutoring children in nearby communities. Clubs abound. The traditional groups such as Kiwanis and Daughters of the American Revolution are well-represented as well as ad hoc committees that spring up for community events. Living in Sun City Center means having a social calendar worthy of your own secretary.
Other amenities include a full-service gym, pools, transportation assistance for those places you can't get to with your golf cart, and assistance with taxes and financial planning.
Moving to Sun City Center isn't just a housing decision, it is a lifestyle choice.
