Although the name would definitely make you think "seaside," Silver Springs Shores, Florida, is an inland town. It isn't hurting for pretty views, though, and lies right next to the Cross Florida Greenway and the Ocklawaha Prairie Restoration Area -- two areas with some of the most beautiful natural inland views in the entire state!
Silver Springs Shores is an area with just 6,500 residents, spread over about 4.8 square miles. Unlike most of Florida, Silver Springs Shores is inland. It gets its name from Spring Lake and Lake Sparkle, both found in the center of town. While this town lacks the ocean views found in most of Florida, Silver Springs Shores has something that much of the area does not -- access to beautiful, natural landscapes, courtesy of the Cross Florida Greenway and the Ocklawaha Prairie Restoration area.
Wherever you decide to look to rent an apartment in Silver Springs Shores, you'll find that the housing market here is vastly different from the rest of the state of Florida. For one thing, the homeownership rate is much higher. Also, the attitude in Silver Springs Shores is much different than larger cities -- people are friendlier here. Even so, you may want to try using an apartment locator online or talk to a local real estate agent. Knowing what to look for before you really begin the hard work can make the entire process much easier.
What are my options?
There's a smorgasbord of housing options in Silver Springs Shores. A small number of available locations are apartments for rent in multi-unit structures. The remaining housing options include detached homes or various types of housing made available by independent landlords. Whether you want to find an apartment or a house, you will have a lot of choices in Silver Springs Shores.
What about renting?
Renters are in good hands here. Many people in the area prefer to rent their homes as opposed to buying them, often for mobility reasons. Take note, though, that the rental cost for even a one-bedroom apartment will be on the high side in Silver Springs Shores.
Is there a lot of competition?
Silver Springs Shores is inland, and since many people move to Florida with ocean-side dreams, it's not really the most popular place to live in the state. When you find a rental apt, there won't be a big rush to commit yourself to it! Take your time, and look around for a place that suits you. Depending on where you work, your commute might be shorter if you find a home around the town's main thoroughfare, Southeast Maricamp Road. Make sure you have proof of income, rental history, and any other documents you might need; it's much easier to rent an apartment in Silver Springs Shores if you're prepared.
Silver Springs Shores doesn't really have much in the way of neighborhoods. No areas are specifically defined, and most folks in town will just refer to the road you live on as your neighborhood. There are also some divisions based on geography -- for instance, a lot of people like to live around Spring Lake or Lake Sparkle because of the views. The country club is also in the area, so property values are a bit higher there.
The main downtown section of Silver Springs Shores is around Midway Terrace and Southeast Maricamp Road, so living here can cut your commute time in half. However, the downtown area also has a higher demand for rentals, so you may want to bring out your competitive side if you're looking to land a place here.
This is, plain and simple, a quiet town. However, folks find plenty of ways to entertain themselves. The Silver Springs Country Club sees a lot of action -- golfers enjoy the great Florida weather and spend countless weekend hours teeing off against their friends.
Lake Sparkle and Spring Lake attract a lot of fishermen. The nearby nature preserves are popular among nature enthusiasts, and you'll see a lot of campers and hikers wandering through these untouched lands.
Silver Springs Shores is home to quite a few restaurants, too. The Dugout Sports Bar and Grill is a popular location for people to kick back and drink a cold one at the end of a long work day.
