If you're looking for a quaint city overlooking the Pacific Ocean, a place called Oceano should sound perfect. It's tiny, with only 7,286 residents. In fact, it's technically a census-designated place, so don't go expecting big-city living. But you're perfectly within your rights to expect a friendly atmosphere and lots of charming property rentals in Oceano!
Looking for a Rental Home in Oceano
One advantage of getting a home in Oceano is that the housing prices are lower than California's average. Whether you end up checking out apartment homes for rent or prefer to buy a house, you will pay a bit less in Oceano than you might in other coastal cities.
The vacancy rate is moderate, which is good news to hear during your house or apartment search. However, the majority of the homes available are seasonal rentals, so if you want a better chance of finding a home you can rent here, start looking in the off season. If you show up looking for a home in California during spring or summer, you'll end up battling it out with the crowds of tourists on vacation by the coast. And no matter when you start your efforts to find apartments, houses, and condo rentals in Oceano, be prepared with your proof of income and money for a deposit.
Oceano Neighborhoods
There are only a couple of distinct neighborhoods in Oceano. This is a quick rundown of one area that's close to the coast and another that is a little further inland.
The Strand: If you want oceanfront property in Oceano -- and it's a safe bet that you do -- head to the Strand. This is where you will find lots of condo rentals and cute beach cottages. There is also a lagoon here and eateries that include Rock N Roll Diner, Beach Burger, and Old Juan's Cantina. Plus, there are plenty of places that rent out ATVs, boats, and more. So if you want to live in an area where your backyard is sand and you have your own path to the Pacific Ocean, this would be the neighborhood for you.
Old Avocado Ranch: Despite the name, this area is rather new, and yes, there is more than avocados here. This is where you can buy or rent a newer single-family home located a few minutes from the beach. It is just north of the Pacific Coast Highway, so you know the area is scenic and a convenient place to live. Plus, it is near Pismo State Beach and Pier, as well as Oceano Dunes.
Living in Oceano
Like most coastal cities, one of the most popular things to do is go to the beach. Whether you swim, surf, suntan, or sail, you can happily spend most of your days at the beach in Oceano. And that's great because there are not too many shopping malls, major restaurants, or other attractions in this tiny area.
Of course, you can always travel to nearby Arroyo Grande to shop at the Pismo Beach Premium Outlets. The drive is only 5 minutes by car, and there are several bus stops in Oceano that can take you around and outside the city. Like in many small cities, you can always take a quaint walk or bike ride to get around. So the next time you're taking a nice little drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, stop in Oceano and check out the homes!
