Founded in 1889, Paso Robles is a Californian city that enjoys a dynamic unity between past and present. Paso Robles has a successful economy and housing costs are above the national average. However, it does offer a more affordable alternative solution to living in some of California’s larger cities. Although it is rare to find all bills paid apartments, there is a good selection of apartment rentals and residential areas are considered to be some of the most attractive in the San Luis Obispo County.

Finding Your Passage to the Oaks

Paso Robles is located on California’s Central coast, midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. With a connection to the US 101 highway, it is ideally situated for people who love the outdoors, with easy access to beaches, mountains and deserts. Housing costs are on the expensive side but general living costs are very much on par with the national average.

Paso Robles has a relatively low population density at 43 people per square mile and it definitely has more of a rustic appeal than city glamour.The city is home to the North County Campus of Cuesta College providing higher educational opportunities for all generations. Military families relocating to Fort Hunter Liggett can expect to find a welcoming, family-friendly community, perfect for setting up home.

Settling Down

There are eight constituent neighborhoods located within the city. Apartment rentals are generally of medium cost relative to California but relatively high on national levels. The region is notably diverse with a fantastic variety of cultural attractions. The main highlights of each neighborhood are listed below:

Shandon/Whitley Gardens: This neighborhood is primarily comprised of medium-sized homes and condos. It's a modern neighborhood with inexpensive rents.

Adelaida Road/ Nacimiento Lake Drive: This is an established suburban neighborhood with mostly medium-sized homes and condos. It's a great neighborhood for those on a tight budget who still want to live comfortably.

Route 46/ Union Road: Real estate in this area is in super high demand, so it may take a few months of looking before the right thing comes up. The prices here are some of the steepest in town so be prepared to shell out for it.

Creston Rd/Niblick Road: This is an urban neighborhood with a real city feel to it. Rents are inexpensive and there is a good mix of family home and apartment complexes.

City Center: This neighborhood is, as the moniker suggests, at the city's center. It's a mixture of homes and small apartment buildings and maintains a cozy feel despite the big city atmosphere. Best of all... Rents are inexpensive!

Capital Hill: This is a pretty neighborhood with a lot of hustle and bustle. It's got all the convenience of city life and lots of the beauty of California.

Meadowlark Road/ Hanson Road: A more upscale neighborhood, you'll find great quality homes and townhouses here. You'll get a lot of nice space and also the comfort and quiet of lovely suburban life.

Lake Nacimiento: This is a pretty area that is more remote than the others, so take this into account if you need to get into the heart of Paso Robles for work or daily life. The remoteness makes it a nice and peaceful getaway, however.

Taking It All In

Famous for its fine wines and lively tourist scene, Paso Robles doesn't fall short on rustic charm. Known as “California’s oldest watering place”, the city is also famous for its hot springs and there are a growing number of hot spring resorts coming into business. People here love to relax and really know how to enjoy the good life. There are big celebrations planned for the 125th anniversary of the city’s founding next year, so now is a good time to get in on the action.
