The Sweetwater Life
Sweetwater has been making headlines since as far back as 1881, when the town hosted its first Texas and Pacific Railway service. During World War II, the military trained female pilots here. This town is also the "Wind Turbine Capital of Texas," an industry that creates jobs by the thousands for Nolan County residents.
Sweetwater fills 10-square miles of prime Texas real estate with just under 11,000 residents. For all practical purposes, Sweetwater is a quiet, dusty Texas town with much to offer potential renters. Those considering a move to this area will find a diverse rental platform available with small apartment complexes and single family homes. Even month to month rentals are common. Finding a home for rent in Sweetwater should not take much time or planning -- it is likely you will get a place within just a few days.
Property owners are anxious to rent, but at the very least you will need proof of income and a photo ID to land a new place. Some landlords may ask for a security deposit, too.
Neighborhoods in Sweetwater
The neighborhood structure in this town is unique. There is one large neighborhood that makes up most of the region. Embedded in this larger space are three smaller ones, for a total of four neighborhoods.
Avenger Village: Avenger Village makes up the majority of Sweetwater. This region offers a choice of properties from studio apartments for rent to rental houses.
There is also a cluster of three tiny neighborhoods buried in the more massive Avenger Village.
City Center: This area covers the eastern section of the cluster. It begins at the 1544 and extends to Crane Street. As with the rest of Avenger Village, it offers diverse rental opportunities, including duplexes for rent and apartments.
LOOP 432 / Hailey Street.: This area sits at the top of the cluster, and runs parallel with State LOOP 432, as the name suggests.
Lamar Street / East Alabama Avenue: This region makes up the western edge of the smaller neighborhood cluster.
Having Fun in Sweetwater
This town has an almost unprecedented love for school sports -- especially high school football -- and even has its own bowl. The Pioneer Museum on East Third is the place to go for all things historic in Nolan County. There are also currently 50 structures in the downtown area listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which can be seen on the popular walking tour offered by the city.
Between wind turbines, arts and craft shows, the Mustang Bowl, and rattlesnake hunts, it is hard to imagine you could get bored in this town. If you do, however, it sits at the midpoint between El Paso and Shreveport, and just two hours from Dallas / Fort Worth, so you are within driving distance of myriad entertainment opportunities.
