City Guide for Uniontown, PA

Known more aptly to the local residents as "Beeson Town," Unionville was founded by Henry Beeson on the same date that the Declaration of Independence was signed: July 4, 1776.

Considered to be one of the first cities established in the newly formed United States of America, Uniontown once played a prominent role in the Civil Role by playing host to a number of homes in the Underground Railroad. At the end of the Civil War, Uniontown grew into a burgeoning economic city with a focus on coal mining and the steel industry, although it experienced a decline afterwards. Despite the population being half of what it was in the 1940s, Uniontown is once again a thriving small city and suburb community of Pittsburgh, PA. Not only is Uniontown famous for the day it became a city, but the town is also the birthplace of the McDonald's Big Mac sandwich and has a U.S. Navy Frigate named after it. Today, Uniontown is known for its historic town and eclectic mix of new and modern high-rise buildings. View Uniontown City Guide
