Just southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania you'll find Clairton, right along the banks of the Monongahela River. In Clairton is the largest coke manufacturing facility in the country!
Efforts to revive Clairton have been underfunded, but this little city is still going strong. A new housing community was recently built, and as the economy in general improves, the fate of Clairton is set to reverse into one of prosperity. Most of the homes available in the area are rental property, so it's wide open for new people to move into the area.
Renting in Clairton
Studio apartments in Clairton are extremely reasonably priced. Larger apartment homes, such as two and three bedroom units, are slightly more. House rent also starts around the same price range. Many of the rental houses available were once homes for the area's steel workers. Sadly, many of the buildings have been abandoned entirely by their previous owners (but hey, one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?). However, a restructuring of property taxes is attempting to renovate the area and bring new buyers to the area. This should encourage property investors to renovate many of the existing dilapidated structures and open them up for renters to enjoy.
If you're going to rent instead of buy, make sure you bring all the right papers with you. This means you'll need copies of your ID, rental history, letters of reference, bank statements and a recent credit report to prove you're not hiding anything.
