Love a good ghost story? The village of Goshen, New York, is renown for the hanging of British Loyalist outlaw Claudius Smith. This ne'er-do-well raided the countryside of Goshen during the American Revolutionary War along with the Mohawk Indian Chief Joseph Brant. Clearly, that escapade did not go over very well. His skull is said to be buried somewhere within the walls of the historic Presbyterian Church.
The village of Goshen is settled within the greater Town of Goshen. It is also the county seat of Orange County, New York. Originally settled in 1714 with a population of just over 3000, it was finally incorporated in 1809. The village has continued to grow over the years to its current population of 5,454, as of the 2010 census. Boasting both a rich historical background, a mostly agricultural industry, and being just 50 miles northwest of New York City, the city gives residents easy access to both country and city.
