City Guide for Eggertsville, NY

Talk about a fire sale! An outfit named the Eggertsville Hose Company was funded in 1906 by frenzied donations that raised the huge sum (for that era in time) of 113 cents on the street at a corner meat market. Seems like the locals were up in arms after two dangerous fires raced through the community. Consequently, this glorified hose squad was formed for the purpose of replacing the hand-to-hand bucket brigade which proved futile in saving those fire afflicted properties. A horse-drawn wagon with an improvised pump and hose became their first-ever piece of firefighting equipment. Talk about necessity being the mother of invention!
