City Guide for Lumberton, NC

Looking for a hometown with the calm, laid-back pace you can only get from that sweet ol’ North Carolina culture? Well, Lumberton is about as sweet as it gets, so read on to learn all you need to know about renting and living like a local Lumbertonian.

If you cringe at the thought of living in cookie-cutter suburbia or concrete-covered big city neighborhoods, you'll be happy to witness the glorious surroundings here. There are plenty of historic buildings, aging southern homes with wraparound porches and rocking chairs, and not to mention the river, the trees, and the dirt. This is North Carolina dirt, by the way, not that LA dirt or NYC dirt that comes with not-so-subtle undertones of urine, hot dogs, and dog doo. But, there's far more to this city than its dirt. After all, a river does run through it, and with it an endless list of river-rat pass-times such as canoeing, fishing, hunting, camping, and splashing around without a care in the world. As far as renting goes, there are charming old brick apartments, townhomes, and rental homes, as well as a few newer rental properties. Apartments and townhomes typically rent for less than $700, while rental homes can range from $500 to $1,000.

Choosing to live in an apartment, townhome, or rental home can be a tough choice. Apartments and townhomes often have more amenities, such as a swimming pool, laundry facilities, playground, and computer center. However, if you have your own computer and washing machine, then a rental home can be just as appealing.

If you are bringing along the dog, get ready for a little extra legwork. Finding pet friendly apartments can be difficult, especially apartments with dogs allowed. However, there are quite a few dog friendly rental homes available from time to time. Always make sure to call your landlord about your building’s pet policy before showing up with Fido riding shotgun.

Bringing along a family, especially with school-age children, is another matter. Lumberton has seen rough times, high crime, and drug issues in recent decades. However, a diligent parent can still raise a good kid around here. There are some not-so-good areas of town, but there are also some very family-oriented neighborhoods with friendly, genuine neighbors who still believe in the it-takes-a-village-to-raise-a-child philosophy. A little bit of exploring is all it takes to find the good and bad parts of town. And, in time you will find that there are tons of great things for kids to get into around here, such as youth sports, summer camps, festivals, all the fun of life in a river town.

Now it's time to get out in that fresh country air. Best of luck.

What to keep in mind when looking for studio apartments in Lumberton, NC

Studio apartments could offer the best of Lumberton living at a less expensive price tag than larger units. Look for the best buildings near entertainment, dining, and public transportation or highway access.

Ask about the square footage of studio apartments in Lumberton during your tour. Even a little extra space in another building can offer more room for storage or an additional chair. Consider the layout and what you can accomplish before you sign. You should have enough room for your bed, a small sitting area, and a dining table. You can always get creative and loft your bed to save on space underneath or install a fold-down table or desk that tucks away.
