Anyone looking at Census records may think that Edgewood became overly popular in the 1960s as evidenced by a nearly 300% population explosion. In reality, however, the city actually merged with Pius Heights and Summit Hills Heights in 1968. This is actually what caused the massive increase in population. Edgewood was just lucky enough to be the city that maintained its name, and who doesn't want to live in a city with a little luck on its side.

Moving to Edgewood

Many people often view Kentucky as part of the rough and tumble areas of the south. After all, the Hatfield-McCoy feud actually took place only three hours from where Edgewood stands today. Fortunately, Edgewood easily turns this assumption on its head. In fact, those trying to find an apartment in Edgewood will likely find it nicer than most other cities in America. Well, unless your last name is Hatfield. That's a joke, of course; or is it?

When to start looking: Ever seen the movie The Day After Tomorrow? Yeah? Two months before that. There are plenty of cities in America that are loaded with people, and Edgewood is right at the, excuse the pun, edge of the big city-small city differential. With a population density of 2,250 residents per square mile, its' population is bustling. The housing market, though, just didn't keep up. Finding a condo for rent could be a difficult endeavor, so you should already be looking. When you recognize that 90% of all residents here have actually purchased their home, it's easy to understand just how popular this city is.

When to make the move: Edgewood is pleasant throughout the warmer months, but it can get downright cold between November and March. Since this pretty much encompasses winter, though, you probably should have expected that. If this somehow surprises you, are you sure you should be on the Internet alone? Regardless, the average high temperatures during the summer months are right around 85, so even the hottest times aren't too shabby when you rent an apartment in Edgewood.

What to bring along: Landlords literally couldn't be anymore picky than what they may choose to be in Edgewood. The majority of homes in the area are owned, so any rental apt, rental condos or townhouses for rent that comes up are sure to get snatched up quickly. That means you've got to make yourself look like a diamond surrounded by lots of coal. The coal in this metaphor are the other potential tenants. No, you shouldn't do this by badmouthing the others; you'd do better showing up with a stellar credit report and proof of income to prove that you're in for the long haul. With such a low crime rate, it really wouldn't even hurt to bring along a background check. Unless you participated in that Hatfield-Mccoy feud we mentioned.

Edgewood Neighborhoods

Any neighborhood you choose in Edgewood is going to be great, and we're not just saying that. Well, we are saying it, but we mean it too. Sure, there's a Wal-Mart Supercenter on the other side of Interstate 275, but there's no need in even going through all that traffic to find something worth doing when you're in an Edgewood neighborhood. There's literally a variety of reasons to love each area, and they all differ from place to place.

Horsebranch: The area south of Horsebranch Road is offset from the rest of the community. The homes and communities are large and beautiful, and you're right next to Interstate 275. Of course, it's not as if you'll ever want to leave this awesome area. Just try.

Central Edgewood: This area is highly residential, but there's a Freedom Park thrown in there too. You'll also find apartments at Towne Properties if you want to avoid getting a house to rent. Oh, and St Elizabeth Healthcare is here as well. Trust us, if you ever break something besides a vase, you'll be happy to live near this center.

President's Park: The area south of President's Park literally has to be seen to be believed. The homes are all immaculate, and this goes double for the lawns and streets. Also, since the bus line goes right along adjacent Dudley Road, your commute couldn't be more simple.

Northwest Edgewood: Many areas don't have a K-Mart and Dollar Tree right next to gorgeous homes, but Edgewood broke that mold as well. Oh, and if you're looking to find apartment buildings, you'll love Country Living Apartments. Just look at that name. How could you not love it?

Living in Edgewood

The neighborhoods in Edgewood are impeccable, and the rest of the area doesn't disappoint either. Of course, you should be more focused on how you're going to manage to swing on of the city apartments in this area, but we understand you might want to make sure there's something to enjoy about the area other than really nice neighborhoods. Well you're in luck, because there actually is. Safe and beautiful doesn't always mean boring!

Amazing Parks: If you like hiking or basketball, check out President's Park. More interested In soccer or volleyball? Freedom Park is that place to go. When there's nothing else to do, you can always hit up a park.

Amazing Medical Care: We know we already mentioned St Elizabeth Hospital, but did we mention how great it is? Well if you ever checked out the HealthGrades website to see the best hospital in your area, you would've noticed that St Elizabeth's made it into the Top 50 from 2006-2011.

Cin City: No, that wasn't a typo. "Cin" is obviously for Cincinnati. You're literally only minutes from The Queen City. This means that, even though Edgewood is mostly residential, you can always check out Cincy when you want to change things up a bit.

For the Love of the Hunt: Okay, we're sure there are hunting opportunities around here. It's a Red State after all, but we're talking about laser tag! Lazer Kraze is only moments away in Erlanger. Seriously, you could walk there if you were so inclined.
