Sevierville has made literary history: Cormac McCarthy set much of his 1973 novel Child of God in the town and surrounding area.
Located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, Sevierville uses its picturesque locale to the town's best interest. Tourists flock to the area every year to hunt, fish in the Little Pigeon River or tackle the whitewater rapids of the French Broad River just north of town. Another feature that brings people to town every year is the Dollywood amusement park founded by native daughter Dolly Parton. For the roughly 15,000 who call this town home, however, there is plenty to do that keeps them occupied even when it's not "tourist season."
Moving to Sevierville
The first thing you'll need to do is learn how to pronounce your new hometown: Severe-Ville. The town and county are named after Col. John Sevier, a Revolutionary War hero who was paramount in routing the British away from the area. While there is a downtown commercial area, you won't find a lot of city apartments in Sevierville. You're more likely to find rental houses instead. Even if you do move into an apartment complex, you'll find that this town takes its outdoors and open spaces seriously. You won't need to allocate much time -- a few weeks should suffice -- to find an apartment. Make sure you bring all required documents such as credit history, proof of employment and your IDs.
Sevierville Neighborhoods
Check out the below neighborhoods of Sevierville and see which one would suit you best.
Middle Creek: If you've ever dreamed of learning to fly, this is the place for you. The Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport is in the northern corner of the neighborhood, but there's also plenty of homes, apartments and infrastructure here as well.
Yettland Park: A mix of renters and owners occupy Yettland Park, a great area to score a rental place. Apartments and rental homes come in a range of sizes, so you'll be able to find even three-bedroom houses for rent here.
Seymour: If a newer home or apartment is what you're looking for, start your search in this up-and-coming area, which always seems to have new construction going on.
Fair Garden: On the western tip of Douglas Lake, this neighborhood began as a plantation. Today, it's a rural area of mostly small and medium homes.
Alder Branch: A mixture of renters and owners make up this area, which is mostly rural. You can probably find some homes to rent, but not many apartments.
Pleasant Hill: One of Sevierville's many rural areas, Pleasant Hill does have a handful of apartment homes.
Living in Sevierville
There is certainly no shortage of things to do in the outdoor paradise of Sevierville. Where the Great Smoky Mountains meet the Tennessee Valley, Sevierville is within a few hours of Knoxville and only minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Country entertainer Dolly Parton was born in Sevierville in 1946. You can drive along the Dolly Parton Parkway or see the statue of Parton on the lawn of the Sevierville courthouse. You can also take a leisurely stroll through the Burchfield Grove Memorial Arboretum.
Getting around and through town is easy, as there are several major state and federal highways through the town, including The Parkway, as Route 441 is known. The Parkway takes visitors through town and into the national park, so traffic sometimes builds up at different times. Instead of worrying about the traffic, join it and enjoy a day in the national park.
