City Guide for Versailles, KY

Many scenes from the movie "Elizabethtown," starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst, were filmed in Versailles, Kentucky rather than Elizabethtown itself.

Versailles is the county seat of Woodford County, Kentucky. The city is situated near Lexington in the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area and had a population of 8,568 at the 2010 census. Founded in 1792, the city is also near Louisville and the state's capital city, Frankfort. Versailles is part of Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region, which is known for its farmland and horses -- and blue grass? Not exactly. The region is covered with "Poa pratensis," a species of grass that is green just like every other type you've seen. The name simply "stems" from the pretty blue flowers the grass produces when it's allowed to grow to its full height. Woodford County is also known for its bourbon, hence the Woodford Reserve Distillery in town. See more

What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Versailles, KY

Finding an apartment in Versailles that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
