Peru officially became a city in 1851, initially as a thriving river port along the Illinois river. It has a population of just over 10,200 and covers a land area of 9.07 square miles. Located not far from Lake Michigan, it is a small town with lots to offer. Chicago, the third largest city in the United States, is just a day trip away.
