LaSalle, along with its twin city of Peru -- yes, that's in Illinois -- make up the heart of the Illinois Valley. They dominated the zinc processing industry at the beginning of the 20th century and were known together as "Zinc City."
Named after early French explorer Robert de LaSalle in 1832, the city was officially incorporated in 1852, making it one of the older towns in Illinois. It's grown since then, covering 12 square miles with a population of 9,601, according to the 2010 census. While the summer temperatures climb into the comfortable 80s, bring your snow gear because it can get below freezing. Brr! Not surprisingly, this historical town makes it a destination for history buffs thanks to its several National Historic Structures, which include Hotel Kaskaskia, the Hegeler-Carus Mansion, the Julius W. Hegeler House, and the LaSalle City Building.
Moving to LaSalle
Moving to this charming town is a simple task as long as you are prepared. Although it's a small town, it has big-city standards in many areas, and one of these is finding apts to rent in LaSalle. Finding rental homes can be a simple task, and often includes a simple chat with a private landlord could seal the deal, after convincing them you are gainfully employed and can afford the move in costs -- usually a security deposit along with first and last months' rent. It's unlikely that a private landlord will run a credit check, but if they do it's always a good idea to have any inaccuracies or any problematic items taken care ahead of time. A letter of reference from a previous landlord laying out all the reasons you are a great renter is always a good idea, as well.
If your search takes you to apartment complexes be ready to fill out an application, have a credit check run, and submit at least two references. Many apartments for rent are pet friendly, but there could be additional deposits and monthly fees, along with possible breed restrictions, so make sure to discuss this with prospective landlords.
No matter which option you decide to go after, you will need deposits for utilities because it is unlikely you will find a place with all bills paid. Take a copy of your rental agreement or lease with you to the water company, as they will generally want to see it before granting you service.
Neighborhoods

You can be a little more selective in choosing a place here and it has plenty to offer those who move to this area. Local amenities include easy access to restaurants, bars and shops. There are also entertainment and fitness facilities nearby.
Downtown: Take all the time you want to choose an apartment in this area. Ongoing construction of apartment complexes has made this area a renters' market that will continue for at least the next decade. What amenities you can't find in your apartment complex you can find by stepping outside your building!
