Medulla simply means "something that is in the middle," which is appropriate because the area of Medulla, Florida, is just about in the center of the state.
The population of the census-designated place (CDP) of Medulla was a little over 6,500 according to the figures from 2000. By the 2010 census, the number of inhabitants had risen to 8,892, showing that it is becoming an increasingly popular place to reside. Most of Medulla's housing was built from the 1980s-today, and is relatively modern. However, you can certainly find rental housing that dates back to the 1950s, but you are going to have to be willing to look for it. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Medulla sits on a site that is over five-and-a-half square miles of land, only a small percentage of which is water. This may come as a surprise to many newcomers who are looking for places to rent, especially given that the CDP lies in such a close proximity to Lakeland. Nevertheless, it should be said that Scott Lake, Banana Lake, Lake Hancock, and Lake Hollingsworth are all bodies of water which are near enough for aqua-lovers to access easily.
Moving To Medulla
Some of the city apartments in Medulla -- and other residences for that matter -- are connected to utility gas, but most are electricity-only dwellings, so it is worth checking with your prospective landlord before signing a lease. About one-third of the households in the CDP are not owned by their occupants, so renting an apartment is quite usual. Bear in mind that the cost of heating your residence, even in the winter months, will be relatively low. However, your cooling costs will be high, even by Florida's standards. As a result, it is highly advisable to check whether or not your rental costs include your utility bills when renting an apartment. May to September are all hot months, so it is a long summer.
The average temperature in this part of the state outstrips even places that are further south. Moving in the heat of summer is possible, but start your day early -- before sunrise -- and be prepared to stop working as the temperature rises. A good tip is to begin looking for rental housing in mid-September so that you can move when the cooler weather makes it a bit more pleasant to haul your belongings around.

Living In Medulla
Florida State Road 570, better known as the Polk Parkway, provides good car access to Interstate 4, which connects Orlando with Tampa. Viewed on a map, Medulla resembles a kite shape, with South Florida Avenue and Shepherd Road forming the eastern and southern edges, respectively. West Pipkin Road, which runs parallel to Shepherd Road, is the northern boundary, while Poley Creek forms the remaining eastern side.
Medulla has its own Resource Center on Parker Road. It is available for anyone in the community and is a good place to hold a party or a similar shindig. Just beyond the CDP's border, off Shepherd Road, there is a reasonably-sized shopping plaza with a variety of commercial outlets and a pizzeria. There are also some other shops and eateries a littler further to the east on the same route, including a pharmacy which is just off South Florida Avenue.
If you are the active sort of person, then you'll be happy to know that Medulla has a number of gyms and a dance school, all located on the east side of town.
