Calexico is a city of nearly 40,000 people that is situated on the American-Mexico border in California, and it was incorporated as a town in 1908. Just across the border is its adjacent Mexican cousin, Mexicali. Both cities were named out of respect for their geographical position and the history of the land here. California used to be a part of Mexico, which is why Calexico is still heavily influenced by Latino culture. Every year there is a Mariachi festival so that nobody forgets which country this little treasure of a city used to call home!
