City Guide
Rio Grande City
Moving to Rio Grande City

Some of the positive aspects of living in Rio Grande City include the low cost of living in the area, the low crime rates, the low cost of amenities and the weather. At the very minimum, you will probably need a security deposit, in addition to your stated rent. This is usually the equivalent of the first month's rent, or it could be less, depending on the policy of the landlord. You will likely need to fill out a rental application, submit to a credit check, and provide proof of income -- usually your pay stubs or tax return from the previous year.

When moving to a new place, most people want to know what types of amenities are available in the area. The good news is that Rio Grande City has plenty of amenities to make life pleasant for the residents of the city. Some of these include convenient shopping, a variety of places to eat and drink, several places to get groceries, and two libraries.

Neighborhoods in Rio Grande City

Rio Grande City is divided into four different main neighborhoods, and each holds its own unique charm. Future residents should be sure to do some thorough research to make sure they get into the part of town that fits them the best.

Garcia's Colonia: The available housing options in this neighborhood are mobile homes and single-family homes. One notable factor about this neighborhood is that a good number of the homes here are relatively new, with lots of houses that were built between 2000 and the present. A few of the houses date back to between the 1970s and late 1990s. The commute to work from here is quite short, with an average of about 15 minutes.

City Center: City Center is a very affordable neighborhood, with the same type of housing options you will find in Garcia's Colonia. Prospective tenants here can choose between mobile homes and one-bedroom to four-bedroom single-family homes. You will also find some studio apartments here. The commute to work is also quite short, lasting an average of 15 minutes either way. Dining options include Texas Cafe and Tacos Aca.

Loma Linda East Colonia: Rental rates here are the same for all the neighborhoods in this area -- that is to say they are very affordable in comparison to the national median. Rental choices here are restricted to the usual single-family homes and mobile homes typical of this city. Houses here are also mostly new, with quite a sizable percentage built in the 2000s. The commute from here to work is also within the 15 minute range.

Los Ebanos Colonia: When compared to the other neighborhoods in Rio Grande City, this one is slightly pricier, but still offers usual small studios, mobile homes, and single-family homes. You will find a lot of newly built homes here, and the commute from this place to work is between 15 and 30 minutes. The main airport that services this area is the McAllen Miller International Airport and there is an Amtrak station within one mile of the city center.
