Lakewood was developed around the man-made Lake Colchester. The south shore has been hugely developed with housing, businesses and schools. The City of Norwalk did their bit in protecting the local residents by relocating Iowa 5, Iowa 28 and Runways 5-23 of the Des Moines International airport.

Echo Valley Estates: This area is pretty rural, but the Echo Valley Country Club is located here, which many people like to live by. There aren't many restaurants besides Subway and McDonald's! Echo Valley was started in the 1970's and has also seen housing developments with the surrounding areas ear-marked for commercial use

Living in Norwalk

A new 18-hole PGA golf course has been presented to the people by the Colonial Meadows Development. The leisure facilities are numerous and within in minutes drive or a few minutes' walk, you will find the The Legacy Golf Course, Willow Creek Golf Course, Great Western Bike Trail, Southridge Mall and the Countryside Golf Course.

There are two Amtrak train stations within the city centre but most people who commute tend to form car clubs, however, as 45% of the people living in Norwalk actually work from home, transport isn't a problem.

On your days off you will have a choice of a public swimming pool, 4 public tennis courts, a public library and a 175 acre Private lake. People here are great golf players and being out-of-doors in the beautiful weather is a great way to meet neighbors and socialize. Have pool parties - you can rent the public pool for private functions. There are at least 20 restaurants along the main drag of Sunset Drive with enough different tastes to suit all palates.
