Hondo is home to a famous sign. In 1930, the local Hondo Lions Club put up a sign that read "This is God's Country, Don't Drive Through it Like Hell." They wanted to slow down drivers speeding through town. The only amendment to the sign since it was erected is that the word "please" was added before "don't drive" in the 1940s. They're awfully polite people here!
