Show Low is an Arizona city about three hours northeast of Phoenix and 2 hours southeast of Flagstaff. Its population is about 10,660, and once you visit this pleasant city for the first time, you'll probably wonder why more people don't live there. It is located in the White Mountains, within the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, which means the atmosphere couldn't get any prettier. If you like the idea of a friendly, small-town feel; lots of towering trees; and some welcome relief from the heat of the rest of Arizona, it's time to check out rental homes in Show Low.
The good news is that the vacancy rate of this city is much higher than the national average. But there's a catch: most of the vacancies are seasonal. That might still work for you if you are looking for a house to rent for just a few months. It might also be helpful if you plan to buy a home here and rent it out to seasonal visitors. What's even better is that the price to buy property here is lower than both the national and state average. The median rent is pretty affordable since it is about the same as the state's average and lower than the national average.
Whether you are looking for rental condos or cozy one-bedroom apartments for rent here, you should start your search during the off season. That's November through March, during which time it should be easier to find a rental than in April through October. You can properly prepare by signing a check for your deposit and gathering up your last two pay stubs. If you can have these items available as soon as you find the home you want in Show Low, you have a better chance of locking it in.
This city has nearly 28 square miles of land, but there's a good chance that most of that is located in the forest. Unless you plan to camp out among the trees, you will likely end up in one of the three established neighborhoods here. Each one has its own advantages. And don't worry; no matter where you choose to live, you can still bring out the ol' sleeping bag and get your camp on in the forest. Just try to pick your Show Low home first.
Linden: This takes up much of the city, so odds are you will end up here. You should know it is the most expensive neighborhood to live in, and is not very walkable at all. But the upside is that you can find everything from one and two bedroom apartments to detached homes, mobile homes, and townhomes. It is on the western side of the U.S. Route 60, and it happens to include the Torreon Golf Club. If you're really into golf and don't mind the occasional flying ball in your backyard, you can even find a home to rent on the golf course.
City Center: Want a more walkable area located near Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area? Of course you do! Here you can find a mixture of single-family homes, mobile homes, and apartment complexes. Plus, the southern edge of this area is a major street, called Deuce of Clubs, and that's where Arby's, JB's Restaurant, Safeway, and lots of other handy dandy businesses are located.
South White Mountain Road and East Show Low Lake Road: This area has more mobile homes than the other neighborhoods, but there are also lots of single-family homes, apartment complexes, and even some cozy cabins here. It's just south of Deuce of Clubs, putting you close to tons of local businesses plus Show Low Lake.
This city is too beautiful not to explore. When you get on the road, you will usually find yourself driving down White Mountain Boulevard, which is a long, curvy road that turns into Arizona State Route 260. Whether you want to get to the local Walmart or the nearby area of Pinetop/Lakeside, you'll take this tree-lined road and get to take in those views. The other street you will frequent is Deuce of Clubs, which becomes U.S. Route 60. Both highways are important for getting around Show Low as well as when you want to leave town, such as to check out Phoenix for the weekend when you need a quick shot of sunshine.
Of course, who says you need to leave Show Low? As long as you love cooler temps, lush forests, and cute cabins everywhere, you'll have everything you need in this city. Just a few local attractions include Tonto National Monument Museum, Museum of Astrogeology, and Show Low Historical Society Museum. If you like spending time outdoors, there are lots of options, including golf. Aside from Torreon Golf Club, there's also Silver Creek Golf Club and the Snowflake Municipal Golf Course. If you want to hike, camp, fish, or just enjoy nature at its finest, there is Bear Wallow Wilderness, Lyman Lake State Park, and oh yeah, an entire national forest here for you to explore.
